Poem: "Dinner Table" -Gray N. Green

"Dinner Table” by Gray N. Green paints a vivid and introspective scene, blending the natural serenity of a forest with the quiet solitude of a dinner table. The poem invites readers into a space where the intertwining roots of trees and waving leaves create a sanctuary for the mind—a place to escape the pressures of daily life. Through its evocative imagery and reflective tone, the piece explores themes of loneliness, numbness, and the comfort found in familiar solitude. “Dinner Table” is a contemplative meditation on finding peace amidst the noise of the world.

I sit crossed-legged at a dinner table,

Lying in a forest

Where the trees meet at their roots,

Intertwining like birds in the sky,

And their leaves wave to each other—

A neighborly hello.

Here my mind can be free

From the stress of everyday life,

Where it can be as empty as could be.

Feeling numb from it all,

Feeling nothing at all.

In plain sight,

Yet no one joins me here at this dinner table.

Safe in a familiar spot,

Sitting here with no one,

Sitting with all my friends.
